Overview

City life is full of invisible trade-offs — safety here, air quality there, schools over there. NESS flattens all of that into something you can read at a glance: a ranked score per neighborhood, backed by data.

We pulled civic and location data, ran it through a Flask analytics backend, and rendered the results in a React interface that judges called the cleanest in the room. The "Best GUI" trophy at CONVENE 2k24 wasn't a fluke — it was the whole point.

What I built

  • React frontend with interactive Maps overlay and live-updating scores
  • Flask analytics service combining multiple data signals into one rank
  • A comparison view so users could weigh two neighborhoods head-to-head
  • End-to-end design — from judge-pleasing UI to the color system used throughout
